The Effects of Parental Favoritism and Birth Order on Personality
Mentor: Dr. Leanord Kajs
Family niches have significant influences and severe consequences because of sibling competition’s effect on personality. Parental investment in forms of attention, time, and money sparks competition between siblings that shape how they react to stress and certain social situations. This research will study how this parental investment develops personalities through evolution. To do this, participants from ages 12-19 will take a survey to rate their perceptions of parental favoritism which will be correlated with birth order information. This data will be used to analyze the relationship between perceptions of parental favoritism caused by birth order and personality characteristics. The results of this study will help psychologists further determine which factor determines how personality develops.
