Capabilities of Soft Robotics in Prosthetic and Medical Devices

Mentor: To Be Determined

Soft robots are robots built with materials that can easily be manipulated to the user’s will, such as elastomers or foams that are deformable. Soft robots, more easily than ‘hard’ robots, can be integrated with humans and other organisms, making them relevant to the field of prosthetics. Novel sensors that can be used to gather data from prosthetics are constantly being developed by researchers. The data they collect can allow the user to not only be able to operate a prosthetic limb but also gain sensory information, which can improve their quality of life and how they interact with materials.
